For You

Funny Women regularly attracts nearly 200 women each year to enter its unique competition, the NIVEA Funny Women Awards. We recognise that this remains a leap of faith for many of the women who enter but know that the nurturing environment which we provide has played a major part in encouraging more women to have a go at stand up comedy.

We've been running an informal programme of workshops as an introduction to comedy for over a year. These are organised to meet demand or we can recommend trainers who will work with you one on one. Even if you don’t want a career as a comic, some knowledge of how to perform stand-up will empower you professionally and personally. Enhanced self confidence and the knowledge that you can overcome certain life situations with humour is a powerful skill.

Funny Women Workshops start with basic elements such as “What is a joke?” before exploring the mechanics of what makes a gag funny. “Go on then, tell us a joke!” deals with stagecraft and delivering humour through performance and “It’s not what you know...” explains to the wannabe comic the etiquette and insider tips of being a gigging comedian. Even if you decide that being a comedian isn’t the life for you, finding out how to use humour in your every day life is a powerful and brave life skill to master.

Funny Women regularly run workshops all over the country - please email info@funnywomen for more details.
